In May 1986, the United States and Canada signed the North American Waterfowl Management Plan — a landmark commitment to continental waterfowl and wetland conservation. México joined the partnership in 1994. In 2026, NAWMP celebrates 40 years of science, collaboration, and on-the-ground conservation delivered through thousands of projects across North America.
The 40th anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate NAWMP's achievements, strengthen partnerships, and build momentum for the work ahead — inspiring hunters, birders, outdoor recreationists, and the public to champion conservation policy and funding for decades to come.

The NAWMP Story
Forty years ago, North American waterfowl were in serious decline. Today, most populations are thriving. This short film tells the story of how three nations chose collaboration over crisis, and what four decades of partnership have built.
